Cathedral Green Bridge, Derby (2007)

The brief called for a new pedestrian crossing of the River Derwent that is capable of being moved out of the river in flood conditions. The solution is a lightweight bridge comprising a simply-supported cable-assisted steel beam that is raised by hydraulic jacks to a level above EA requirements. The highly transparent design recognises the sensitive historic setting at the southern gateway to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
