Mersey Gateway Bridge (2006-)
The Mersey Gateway is a major new road crossing between Runcorn and Widnes. The unique three pylon configuration responds to sensitive environmental constraints in the tidal estuary and a height limit imposed by the nearby Liverpool Airport, and also provides for a future light rail link. The design has been reviewed by CABE before progressing to a Planning Application and anticipated Public Inquiry in 2008.
