Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Tyneside (1997-2001), Role: Project Architect

This unique arched cable-stay bridge provides the regenerated Gateshead cultural quarter with a dramatic new pedestrian and cycle link. The act of opening – by rotating like an eyelid blinking – is both innovative and spectacular. Winner of more than 20 major awards, including the 2002 RIBA Stirling Prize, it is a popular and iconic destination for locals and tourists alike.
