River Derwent Bridge, Matlock (2006-)

The design comprises the development of a simple I-section beam, to blend engineering with aesthetics. Multiple web stiffeners are rotated along the bridge through 180 degrees to generate a subtle, rhythmic pattern. Constructed in weathering steel, the bridge is conceived as a modern artwork in counterpoint to its beautiful natural setting at the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Derbyshire.
