Weiti River Bridge in NZ under construction
11 August 2025
Construction on the Wēiti River Bridge in Auckland is well underway, with piling progressing steadily.
Over the past 10 months, the team has bored 147 piles, forming the foundation beneath the ground and riverbed to support the 540m-long bridge above. With just five more piles to go on the eastern side for Abutment B, that brings 2,148 metres drilled to date.
Each permanent pile is drilled, lined with a circular steel casing, and reinforced with steel cages before concrete is poured.
The extradosed bridge - the first of its kind in New Zealand - will feature a separate path for walking and cycling, providing breathtaking views of the river mouth and Rangitoto Island.
