A gateway to Mark Twain's favourite home

In 2017 the Government of Bermuda commissioned Knight Architects, together with Ramboll and Eadon Consulting, to design two replacement highway bridges providing vital connections across the island.

Longbird Bridge will serve as more than critical infrastructure. As the gateway structure for visitors arriving at LF Wade International Airport, it will create a memorable first impression and contribute meaningfully to Bermuda's distinctive identity.

The design features a twin tied-arch structure with an asymmetrically positioned pedestrian deck, enhancing connectivity between the eastern islands and Bermuda's mainland. Together with the Swing Bridge Replacement, Longbird Bridge forms part of a cohesive family of crossings unified by shared design principles: curvaceous, flowing forms defined by continuous edge curves, complemented by a vibrant color palette that echoes Bermuda's celebrated architectural heritage.
