Gateway bridge lifted into place in York

We were excited to see the striking form of the York Central Bridge recently lifted into place over the Network Rail East Coast Main Line. The installation is a major milestone in the current phase of York Central's infrastructure works and will play a key role in setting the quality and placemaking tone for the world-class scheme.
Designed by Knight Architects, with Arup and Gustafson Porter + Bowman, and delivered for Homes England and York Central Partnership by John Sisk & Son Ltd, this 71m-span crossing will be the gateway to one of the largest regeneration projects in England.
Follow on works are now underway to deliver new roads, footpaths and cycleways, supporting safer and more accessible routes into York Central. The bridge is expected to open in 2027.
