Major German urban infrastructure programme moves ahead

16 November 2023

Councillors in the historic city of Ulm, southern Germany, have approved a €182m infrastructure scheme that will enhance active mobility and vehicular travel, as well as secure better access to green space for residents and visitors.

The B10 Blaubeurer Tor Bridge Replacement project is part of a wider urban masterplan that culminates in the 2030 Landesgartenschau (or Regional Garden Festival). The complex project will see a new road tunnel, a replacement road and active mobility bridge and several underpasses created. Appointed to deliver the infrastructure scheme, Knight Architects is working alongside Konstruktionsgruppe Bauen and tunnelling specialist Boll und Partner.

“It is truly remarkable to be able to contribute once again to Ulm's infrastructure, especially in such close proximity to our award-winning Kienlesbergbruecke, which has been serving the people of Ulm since 2018.”
