A splash of art on Walnut Footbridge!
21 August 2025
It’s fascinating to see areas around our bridges can evolve over time to reflect local needs, even many years after completion.
So when we saw the striking new mural on Walnut Footbridge's western abutment, giving the bridge a fresh and vibrant character, we were delighted. Commissioned by Guildford Borough Council, the artwork was designed and painted by professional contemporary street artists Roo and Skyhigh, who have enhanced the structure in unique and unexpected ways.
The finished mural celebrates Guildford’s riverside heritage, depicting a kingfisher, the willow trees over Guildford’s Town Bridge, a lesser celandine flower, and a narrowboat.
The artwork transforms the bridge into a near-dreamlike space. Amid the rush of commuters along the riverside path, it provides a pocket of calm, a splash of colour and tranquillity that softens the pace and offers a moment to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
