A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon opens to traffic eight months early

05 May 2020

We congratulate Highways England and our colleagues on the A14 Integrated Delivery Team for completing Britain’s biggest road project an impressive eight months ahead of schedule. Today saw the end of permanent roadworks and reduced speed limits on the £1.5bn scheme, which started on site in 2016.

There remain some completion activities to carry out, such as landscaping, installing new technology and other off-road tasks. These include finishing works to Knight Architects’ two cable-stayed bridges, at Swavesey (pictured) and Bar Hill, designed with Atkins. These new crossings are part of more than thirty kilometres of new routes for cyclists, walkers and horse riders included in the scheme, and have already become familiar landmarks along the route.
