Helsinki's newest landmark opens!
20 April 2026
We’re proud to mark the pedestrians and cycle opening of Kruunuvuori Bridge, Finland’s longest and tallest crossing and a striking new landmark on Helsinki’s skyline.
Project Architect Tom Osborne joined the highly anticipated celebrations on 18 April alongside 50,000 members of the local community. The opening was officiated by Mayor Daniel Sazonov and Deputy Mayor Johanna Laisaari, who each formally opened one end of the bridge.
The result of a winning 2013 international design competition entry developed with WSP Finland, the bridge design responds to both the technical demands of a major infrastructure crossing and the cultural and mobility aspirations of the city.
Conceived as a fully sustainable transport link, the bridge is dedicated exclusively to trams, pedestrians and cyclists, supporting a shift towards cleaner, more active travel across Helsinki. The 135-metre-high diamond-shaped pylon references the historic crown ownership of the bay, establishing a bold and contemporary civic landmark.
Congratulations to the wider project team whose collaboration made this extraordinary project possible: WSP Finland, YIT, Kreate Oy, Ramboll and HTJ.
The tram connection across the bridge is scheduled to open in Q1 2027.
