Küstrin-Kietz Rail Crossing shortlisted at BCI Awards

26 June 2025

The pioneering Küstrin-Kietz Rail Crossing has been shortlisted for the International Project Award at the British Construction & Infrastructure Awards 2025. A new category for this year, the award celebrates projects
delivered outside the UK that demonstrate outstanding collaboration, cultural
sensitivity, and measurable impact—recognising how infrastructure can connect places and people across borders.

The bridge plays a vital role in reconnecting the Polish and German rail networks, breathing new life into a historic trade route. As the centrepiece of the Berlin–Kostrzyn–Gorzów railway modernisation, the bridge functions as both infrastructure and landmark—highlighting the site’s symbolic and strategic significance.

Its slender network arch design pairs technical precision with visual elegance. The use of carbon hangers, an international first for a rail bridge, has enabled a lighter, more efficient structure with reduced embedded carbon. This project reflects what’s possible through coordinated and international collaboration, and we extend our congratulations to everyone who contributed to this exceptional piece of infrastructure.
