Oxpens River Bridge moves forward

12 February 2026

Oxpens River Bridge has taken a further step forwards with the appointment of Jackson Civil Engineering to deliver the scheme.

The new footbridge will provide a traffic-free connection for pedestrians and cyclists between Oxpens Meadow and Grandpoint Nature Park, linking the west and south of Oxford with the city centre. The structure forms a key component of Oxford's West End regeneration programme, which prioritises sustainable transport and green infrastructure.

Spanning 100m from abutment to abutment, the bridge features two gently expressed structural waves, carefully shaped to preserve river views and complement the surrounding landscape. Slender railings and integrated seating create opportunities to pause and engage with the riverside setting.

Construction is expected to start this Spring.
