ELOR shortlisted for The Pineapples 2026

05 February 2026

The East Leeds Orbital Route (ELOR) has been shortlisted in the infrastructure category for The Pineapples 2026! Celebrating UK architecture that creates great places where people want to live, work and play, we are delighted that Leeds City Council's biggest infrastructure project for the past 50 years has been recognised.

The dual two-lane highway, connecting to the East Leeds Extension (ELE), is a major strategic artery for the city's growth. While essential for transport, it risked becoming a barrier for non-motorised users and wildlife, potentially fragmenting existing routes and limiting accessibility. The scheme design addressed these challenges with two new underpasses and three active travel bridges, linking existing radial routes with new pathways along the corridor. The architectural approach to these understated structures creates a cohesive narrative for the scheme, delivering a family of 'Beautiful Ordinary' designs, which are elegant, functional and beneficial to users.

Alongside all finalists, ELOR will be presented live to the judges at the Festivals of Pineapples from 24 - 26 February, with winners announced at the awards party on 22 April.
